Introduction to Suzuki Recorder

  • A course for recorder teachers:
    • help your students develop their ear to play with beautiful tone and intonation
    • use ear training to develop sight reading
    • interested in taking Suzuki Recorder Unit 1, but uncertain? This will give you a sense of whether that would be a fit for you, and include some useful take aways.
  • A course for recorder players:
    • If you have always wanted to play by ear but not certain how to go about learning to do it, this will give you the tools you need
  • minimum 15 h of instructional time scheduled over 3 to 5 days
  • content: how to help a beginner:
    • play by ear and read music
    • produce a beautiful expressive tone
    • have excellent posture and hand position
    • develop ensemble skills
    • improvise
    • recognize the influence of parents / caregivers, and learn to harness that influence for student success
    • create a foundation for future independent learning
    • getting started with the first few tunes in the Suzuki Recorder Method Vol 1 (to cover all the aspects of teaching the entire book, please take Unit 1)
  • no audition is required
  • Every Child Can! or Filosofia is a recommended prerequisite
  • SAA membership is advised if you want to register this course with the Suzuki Association of the Americas
